Mrs. Lena Baumann, 87 Died Sunday

Mrs. Lena Baumann, 87, died at her home Sunday morning. She had been ill for several months.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 2 PM at St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed church with the Rev. Edwin Riske officiating. Burial was in the Minonk cemetery. Pallbearers were all grandchildren of the deceased: Dean Uphoff, David Uphoff, Don Uphoff, Duane Baumann, Loren Cremer and Phillip Rupright. Singers were Mrs. Mina Kalkwarf and Mrs. Norma Turner. Organist was George Krug, Jr.

She was born September 21, 1873 in Sacramento, Calif., the daughter of Uffa and Gesena Schlomer Kettwich. She came to Minonk when she was six weeks old traveling mostly in a stage coach.

She married Frank Baumann on March 15, 1893, at Windtown. They lived on a farm east of Minonk. Her husband passed away in 1935. She moved to Minonk in 1940.

Surviving are two sons, Rank and Alfred, both of Minonk; four daughters, Mrs. Sena Telthorster of Marysville, Ohio; Miss Ann Baumann of Detroit, Michigan; Miss Adelin Baumann and Mrs. Florence Uphoff, both of Minonk; three sisters, Mrs. Lucy Ostermann of Woden, Iowa; Mrs. Sena Rients of Minonk; Mrs. Anna Post of Titonka, Iowa; four brothers, John, Carl and Eilert, all of Minonk, and Uffa of Bloomington; 11 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Her husband, one son, one sister and three brothers preceded her in death.
